Based on the definition of critical thinking, three phases are identified. Those phases are analytic, evaluative and creative. People will analyze thinking, then evaluate thinking in order to improve thinking. In order for the critical thinking process to be effective, three contributions need to be discussed. Those components are affective, cognitive and behavioral. The affective component is the attitude or body of mind at which a person views a subject. For example, a person needs to understand that more then one answer exists for a specific problem and being fit to be open minded to other opinions.



The cognitive component is the thought process itself. For example, a person will use different thinking skills such defining the issue and reviewing data. The behavioral component is using certain actions to make critical thinking valuable. For example, being able to ask specific questions to obtain everyones viewpoints on a topic (Schleifer & Greenawalt, 1996). Using critical thinking can be beneficial.
