There seem to be two main conflicts; which are the wives and maps. The wives became a conflict because cornet always seemed to ask the wives from the husbands.
The men wouldnt trust their wives or Cornet close to each other, not because of the money but his unusual fellow member size. But the number one conflict is the maps. Maps in New Orleans was power and money. The men would sell unseen maps to Cornet and he would pay them in return. But as time went on a new map came about and Cornet would do anything to get his hand on that map: the map of the Louisiana Purchase. That map would be the reason of everyone turning his or her back on him.
The playwright makes the story a japery instead of a serious play to let deal make their own opinion and to give variety.
