Cabeza De Vaca was a Spanish nobleman who set out on an expedition to the Gulf Coast in the 16th century. His light career was cut short when his ships got wrecked off the sea-coast of present day Texas and he found himself enslaved by the Han and Capoque clans of the Karankawa Indians. This passing talks about how he survived among the internal American groups and the skills and strategies he used to fit in.
The first thing that Cabeza De Vaca did to receive with the Native American culture was to learn their lecture. This was a pivotal stones throw because without being able to express himself he would never look at been able to free himself from slavery. He was skilled in the backing of trade, and undoubtedly speaking the same language meant he could instantly use his negotiation skills to more effect. Furthermore, speaking the same language definitely brought the tribes closer to him, and helped him gain their trust.
Cabeza De Vaca always yearned to take care a Spanish outpost so he travelled extensively through North America in his quest to find one. Throughout his travels, he made use of his Christian fosterage and European knowledge of science and healing to gain fame as a healer of men.
The fact that he combined them with traditionalistic Native American rituals only made it more agreeable to the Native American population. Therefore in his mission to assimilate with the native tribes, Cabeza was always willing to adapt and improvise on his methods. This meant that within a short span of time he had gained a lot of respect and fame and also a smaller contingent of Native American followers.
