The article I did for my review was called The Prevalence of Mental Disorders in Prisoners in the City of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. This article is about the different psychiatric diseases found in the inmates in the prison. When France did this research on their prison populations they found that 23% had depression, 13% had anxiety disorders, 8.7% suffered from alcohol addiction, 8.9% suffered from psychotic disorders and 13.3% had psychotic disorders (Pondé et al., 2011). In England and Wales, the study was done to males before they were sentenced. Based on the criteria from the International Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, researchers used a semistructured interview. The results showed that 9.5% had depression, 38% suffered from alcohol and drug addiction and 4.8% had personality disorder.
